Somewhere in a parking lot years ago, an instructor set up two rows of cones and taught you to swerve. At 15 miles an hour, in a controlled space, that swerve works every time — so most of us filed it away as a skill we own. But the swerve you practiced at 15 changes at 70. The lean grows with your speed, the traction it consumes grows with your speed, and the one thing a swerve never does, at any speed, is slow you down. In this video we cover what a swerve actually asks of your tires at highway speed, when swerving beats braking and when braking wins, why doing both at once is worse than either one alone, and how to build the brake-or-swerve decision before the moment that demands it. Because when that moment comes, you'll have less than a second, and whatever decision you've built ahead of time is the one your hands will make.
